Zebop!

Zebop! takes its name from Santana's 1981 album and plays that catalog, and only that catalog. Lead guitarist Antonio Marquez put the group together in 2005 with percussionist Ernesto Angulo, who had played Santana material in the early 1980s with Libre, a San Jose band; the two had been talking about a proper tribute since then. The lineup on the Bands of the Bay profile ran seven deep: Marquez on guitar, Alfredo Eduardo Lazo on vocals, Phil Bjurman on bass, Art Padilla on drums, Enrique "Quique" Sandoval from San Francisco's Mission District on congas, Angulo on timbales and David Pierce, also from San Jose, on keyboards and vocals. Lazo and Pierce were the most recent additions at the time.

The band worked the circuit a tribute act lives on: club dates, outdoor festivals, corporate and private events, with a profile photo taken at a Moscone Center show in San Francisco. The Bands of the Bay page, captured in January 2009, filed Zebop! under Tribute, Latin and Rock, gave the motto as The Ultimate Tribute to Santana, listed no recordings, and linked the site's May 2008 roundup of free Bay Area summer concerts. It carried a perfect 10 rating from a single vote and just under 600 page views. No Wikipedia article exists for the band; the only Zebop! on Wikipedia is the Santana record it is named after.
