AmpLive is Anthony Anderson, a producer and DJ who was born and raised in Texas and became one half of Zion I, the Oakland hip-hop project founded by MC Baba Zumbi. He stayed with the group until 2015, when he left on good terms to work under his own name.

Most people outside the Bay first heard of him in 2008, when he put out Rainydayz Remixes, an eight-track reworking of Radiohead's In Rainbows. Warner/Chappell sent a cease-and-desist; after the record built a following through YouTube, Stereogum and Pitchfork, a settlement let him give it away for free, and Wired called it the best free download of the week.

His solo run started with Murder at the Discotech in 2010, followed by Therapy at 3 with Eligh in 2011, Headphone Concerto on Plug Research in 2014, and Gate 13 with Del the Funky Homosapien in 2018. Production credits include Goapele's "Closer" and remixes for Tokyo Police Club and Jamie Lidell.

The Bands of the Bay entry was a single-member profile under the name Amp, filed as hip-hop with the hometown given only as Bay Area, CA. The bio was short: an up-and-coming beat maker building a reputation as one of California's more versatile producer-DJs, with a mention that he had produced for Zion I. It pointed to zionicrew.com and a MySpace page, which tells you exactly what year it was.

By November 2008 the page had been viewed about 1,500 times and rated 6.0 by 15 voters. The one fan shout-out on the page was about the Radiohead mixes, which is a fair summary of what the Bay Area was talking about that year.
