Music friends, word is that the Monterey Music Summit, which BandsOfTheBay.com and three of our site member bands were part of, has been cancelled.
Yes, you heard us right. The three-day event down at Laguna Seca is likely not happening. No RV. No roadtrip. Nada.
We’re super sorry if anyone took our advice (and discount code) and bought tickets. Hopefully those are being refunded, of course.
I don’t have the details yet on “why.” Two obvious guesses would be slow ticket sales–at $169 per three-day pass, it certainly wasn’t cheap for the indie fan demographic.
There were also some hassles with Monterey County officials and law enforcement over the selection of Snoop Dogg as the headliner, as his name has been associated with gang activity, a big problem down on the Monterey peninsula.
Whatever the reason, we’re disappointed for sure. But we’re going to focus on having a strong BandsOfTheBay.com presence at several upcoming summer music events. Look for us (we hope!!) at the Alameda County Fair and Concordstock, to name a couple.
And a special thanks to the more than a dozen bands who were willing to apply to go down to Monterey to play our stage–especially the three we selected: Jupiter is Useless, Diego’s Umbrella and Death Valley High. We hope you’ll check out their music. We thought they rose to the top of our site qualitywise, and we hope we can still bring them to a stage near you very soon.
